I always love reading other bloggers ‘A Day in the Life’ posts. The last time I wrote one, M was only five months old. Oh my how things have changed. I can’t believe how fast time passes. I know everyone says that, but truly, it does!
M is now 13 months old as of yesterday. Here is a typical day in the life having a 13 month old.
6:40 a.m. – Alarm goes off. Wake up. Turn on the video monitor (yes! I finally don’t sleep with it on anymore – and oh my gosh my sleep is SO much better. If she is REALLY crying I can hear her and will wake up). M is still asleep. Check email on my phone. Get up.
6:50 – Go downstairs, start a pot of coffee.
6:52 – Go upstairs, shower.
7:00 – Get out of shower, get dressed.
7:05 – Go into M’s room. Open the blinds. Turn on the lights. Turn off her sound machine. Say GOOD MORNING! She wakes up and greets me with such a big smile. Change her, pick out her clothes for the day and take her downstairs. Lay her clothes out on the couch for Daddy. Tuesdays are Daddy Days.
7:10 – Make her morning bottle of milk. It has to be microwaved for 23 seconds or else she won’t drink it. Lay her down, turn on sesame street. She has her bottle & watches tv. I sit next to her on the floor and have my first cup of coffee.
7:20 – Make my lunch.
7:30 – Play with M for a little bit before I leave. She now understands that when I grab my lunchbox, purse, and keys it means that I’m going bye-bye. She loves waving and saying ‘bye-byeeeee!!!!’ but then when she realizes I’m actually leaving she tries to run after me and cries. 🙁 Makes my heart break having to shut the door fast. She spends the day with Daddy. Not sure what they have planned for the day.
7:45 – I leave for work. By the way, this week I’m driving a rental car because my Jeep Grand Cherokee is at the dealership getting fixed. Some big recall on cylinder heads(?) on this year, make and model. I finally took it in last Friday evening after the check engine light was on for 2 weeks (well, actually, probably more like a month. oops). I can’t complain, Chrysler-Jeep is taking care of everything, including my rental car. I’m driving a super sweet (ha!) Chrysler 200.
8:20 – Arrive at work. Sit in my car. Check my phone. Put on makeup.
8:25 – Clock in at work. Start my day.
9:00 – Morning meeting.
12:25 – Get a text from DH. He is driving past my work headed to UTC mall. Mention they should stop and say hi. He asks me to meet him at the Park 1 mile from my work.
12:45 – Meet them at the Park. I only get 30 minutes for lunch so it’s a quick visit. We had just enough time to play on the swings, play on the teeter tot, and go down a couple of slides. She tries to eat sand. She tries to eat Bark. He Daddy said she had no interest in breakfast or lunch. Or wait, maybe she had a bunch of beans for lunch. I can’t remember. Anyway, It was short and sweet but I got to see my baby mid-day which is always a plus.
1:15 – I’m back at work, they are at UTC. They have a really great outdoor family play area that M just loves.
5:00 – Clock out. Can’t wait to get home. Tired. I think we’re going to Costco. Mentally prepare our list on my drive home.
5:30 – Pull in at home. Go inside. Can’t wait to see my baby. Greeted with a huge huge, she ran up to me and gave me a hug all by herself.
5:35 – Go to the bathroom, change her diaper. Grab our stuff and leave for costco.
6:00 – Arrive at Costco. Shop. Chicken. Salmon. Ground Turkey. Diapers. Wipes. Coffee. Cleaning Supplies. Fruit. Strawberries. Grapes. Lunch meat Turkey. Avocados. Bananas. Raviolis. Whole Milk. Non-fat milk. String Cheese. There has to be more as we spent $250. Ugh.
6:45 – Walking out of Costco realize I’m hungry. DH ate a carne asada burrito and 3 rolled tacos with guacamole at 3:30 that he picked up on their way home from UTC. Great. So nice of him. Dinner by myself. I make them wait and grab a hot dog & drink for $1.50. Score.
7:00 p.m. – Eat the hot dog in the backseat with M. She is getting super cranky. She’s hungry and tired. She didn’t take an afternoon nap. Not sure why. She loves my hot dog bun.
7:15 p.m. – Get home. I get M ready for bed. We’re half an hour late. We normally go upstairs at 6:45 on the dot. I hate being on such a schedule, but it really works. M is a mess. Make her bottle, take her upstairs. DH unloads the costco stuff and does the dishes.
7:20 p.m. – Straighten up her room. Straighten up her crib. Get her PJs out and diaper out. Get her a paci ready on the nightstand next to her bottle.
7:25 p.m. – Start her bath. Go back in her room (just across the hall), and find her reading in her chair. I bought this chair for her before she was born because it matches her pink & black damask nursery so well! Anyway, she has never used it. We’ll she’s climbed on it a lot but because she is so active she has never actually sat in it. I came back into her room and found this.
I about died. She looks like such a big girl reading in her chair!
7:30 – Bath time! Her favorite.
7:40 – Time to dry off, get PJs on. Give her her bottle and rock her. She is so freaking cute and this is my favorite time of day. After she finishes her bottle she wants nothing to do with me! She tries to turn over and squirm out of my arms. She wants to lay in her crib.
7:45 – put her to bed. Half an hour later than normal. Oh well. Hopefully as she gets older we will be able to push her bedtime back gradually. Especially this summer, I love summer nights and want to enjoy them with her.
7:50 – Get baby video monitor out of our room. Go downstairs. Finish unpacking from costco trip/straighten up house. It’s a disaster. Why is it always a disaster on Daddy Days? Hmph. Remember I have to put the carseat from my Jeep into the rental car because tomorrow is Day Care. That takes forever. Why is everything so hard tonight?
8:15 – Start design work. I have been running my own business, Jennifer Alison Designs for five years now. Right now my hot items are stickers. Specifically Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse Toodles Birthday Party Stickers. I’m averaging a few orders a day right now. I design, print & get ready for shipping.
9:00 p.m. – remember I want to start using Flickr more. Upload about three albums to my Flickr photostream.
9:45 p.m. – Shit, I’m tired. DH is alseep on the couch. Wake him up to go upstairs. Go upstairs. Get ready for bed.
10:00 p.m. – Watch TV, asleep within a few minutes.
6:40 a.m. – Wednesday. Alarm Goes off. Good morning!
